Oud Lessons in Dubai

In-person oud lessons in Dubai with Wael Salah, an Egyptian Arabic singer, oud player and music educator who has lived in the UAE for about three years and has taught music in Egypt, Oman and Kuwait. Lessons are for all levels, from the first time you hold an oud to playing maqamat and taqasim.

Who these lessons are for

Adults who want to learn the oud correctly from the start, self-taught players who want to fix their foundations, and players who want a deeper understanding of Arabic maqam and improvisation. Every student starts from their current level, and the plan is built around your goal and the time you have to practise.

What you'll learn

Where lessons take place in Dubai

In-person lessons are usually held at Dubai Public Libraries, mostly Al Safa Art & Design Library, a calm setting that suits learning. Home visits within Dubai can also be arranged for an extra fee agreed by area, for example in areas like Al Safa, Jumeirah, Al Wasl, Business Bay, Downtown Dubai or Dubai Marina. The location and time are confirmed when you book.

How lessons are organised

Each lesson is 40 minutes. Choose the 8-lesson course for AED 2,000, paid upfront, scheduled as two lessons a week or one back-to-back double session a week, or a single lesson for AED 300, paid each time. Payment is by bank transfer or cash. If you travel or get busy, you can continue online with the same approach.

Before your first lesson

If you have an oud, bring it so we can check its condition and tuning. If you don't have one yet, ask when booking for advice on a suitable beginner instrument. You can also read our guide on how to start learning oud as an adult, or compare online and in-person oud lessons in Dubai.

What a lesson looks like

A typical 40-minute lesson starts with a short warm-up and a tuning check, moves on to the technique or maqam you are working on, and ends with a piece or phrase and clear practice goals for the week. You leave each lesson knowing what to practise and why.
