Online Oud Lessons
Online oud lessons by video call with Wael Salah, for students anywhere in the world, in Arabic or English. A clear, step-by-step approach for all levels, from the basics to maqamat and taqasim.

Why learn oud online?
Online lessons save travel time, let you learn from home wherever you live, and keep your lessons regular even when you travel. You can record parts of the lesson to revisit while practising. The approach, lesson length and prices are the same as in-person lessons in Dubai.
What you'll learn
- Posture, plectrum technique and the left hand on a fretless neck.
- Tuning and careful listening to pitch and quarter tones.
- Arabic maqamat: Rast, Bayati, Hijaz, Nahawand, Kurd and Saba.
- Arabic pieces and songs, plus exercises for improvisation.
- A realistic practice routine between lessons.
How to set up
- A stable internet connection and a quiet room.
- A camera that shows both hands and the whole oud.
- "Original sound" (or equivalent) turned on in your call app, if available.
- A tuner or tuner app, and a notebook.
Connection delay makes playing together at the same moment difficult, so we work in turns: the teacher plays, you repeat, and corrections happen step by step. Read more in learn oud online or in person in Dubai?
Scheduling and time zones
Times are agreed when you book, taking the time difference with the UAE into account. Each lesson is 40 minutes. Choose the 8-lesson course for AED 2,000, paid upfront (two lessons a week or one double session a week), or a single lesson for AED 300.
If you live in Dubai and prefer to meet in person, see oud lessons in Dubai. For the theory side, there are also maqam lessons online.
What a lesson looks like
An online lesson begins with a quick sound, camera and tuning check, then technique, then the maqam or piece you are working on. At the end you get clear practice goals for the week, and you can keep your own recording to review.
